Small stone 1-6-12

Awake.
Sun pushing its way through the blinds,
birds chirping.
But this is January,
meant to be bound by the dull grays and browns
of stripped trees and dormant grass.
A time for cave-dwelling.
But not today, a day fighting for spring,
as if the first crocus could pop up
out of the heavy earth
at any moment.
