Small stone

For the second year in a row, I’m participating in the January Mindful Writing Challenge sponsored by the good folks at Writing Our Way Home in the U.K. The idea is to properly notice something each day and write a “small stone” about it. Here goes!

Asphalt unrolls underneath us
as we fly by a hawk perched on a bare branch.
In his stillness, he surveys the lake
unfurled in front of him
like a sapphire carpet
studded with diamonds.
