Small stone #18

Anemic sage-green leaves, liberated from their browning stalks and clustered in a heap on the top brick step. A haphazard patch of potting soil strewn on the step below, like pulverized charcoal. The spindly stand on its side, defeated. Last night’s wind made dominoes of all things upright. In the morning’s chill air, the pink sky washes away a week of rain. It isn’t the season for succulents anyway.
